Upon your arrival in Moshi, a vibrant town situated at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, you will be greeted by the friendly team from Burigi Chato Safaris, your trusted tour company for this adventure. After settling into your accommodation, you will have a pre-trek briefing to discuss the details of the upcoming journey. Take this opportunity to ask any questions and ensure you are well-prepared for the trek.
Your trek begins at the Lemosho Glades, where you will complete the necessary registration and meet your experienced guides and porters. The trail winds through the lush rainforest, offering glimpses of exotic flora and fauna. After a few hours of trekking, you will arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, your first overnight campsite. Take some time to relax, enjoy a hearty meal, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty surrounding you.
As the sun rises, continue your journey towards Shira 1 Camp. The trail gradually gains altitude, providing stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. You will pass through the heath and moorland zones, characterized by unique vegetation and an otherworldly atmosphere. Arriving at Shira 1 Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 3,500 meters, you will witness the magnificence of the Shira Plateau, a vast high-altitude desert.
Today's trek takes you from Shira 1 Camp to Moir Camp, situated at an elevation of around 4,200 meters. The trail offers a dramatic change in scenery as you enter the alpine desert zone. Keep an eye out for the endemic and resilient plants that thrive in this harsh environment. Moir Camp provides a serene setting, with panoramic views of the rugged terrain and distant peaks.
Leaving Moir Camp, you will descend into the Barranco Valley, known as the "Garden of Senecios." The trail descends into a lush and picturesque valley, where giant senecio plants dot the landscape. As you approach Barranco Camp, you will encounter the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling yet manageable scramble that adds an exciting element to the trek. Enjoy a well-deserved rest at Barranco Camp, nestled in the shadow of towering cliffs.
Today's trek takes you from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 4,000 meters. The trail traverses several ridges and valleys, offering breathtaking views of the glaciers and expansive plains below. Karanga Camp provides a serene and peaceful atmosphere, allowing you to acclimatize and prepare for the final push to the summit.
As you leave Karanga Camp, the landscape transforms into a rocky and barren terrain. The trail gradually ascends towards Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. At an elevation of approximately 4,600 meters, the campsite offers incredible views of the summit and surrounding peaks. Take this opportunity to rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the challenging summit day ahead.
Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of your trekking adventure. You will wake up before midnight and begin the arduous ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters. The trek is physically demanding but accompanied by the awe-inspiring beauty of the starry night sky. As the sun rises, you will reach the summit, where a sense of triumph and awe awaits. After celebrating this remarkable achievement, you will descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
On your final day, you will descend from Mweka Camp through the lush rainforest, retracing your steps back to the trailhead. Once you reach the Mweka Gate, you will receive a well-earned certificate of accomplishment and bid farewell to your guides and porters. Take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey you have undertaken and the memories that will last a lifetime.
