Your adventure begins with your arrival in Moshi, a vibrant town located at the base of Kilimanjaro. You will be warmly welcomed by the team from Burigi Chato Safaris Tour Company, who will provide a detailed briefing, ensure you have the necessary equipment, and answer any questions you may have.
After a hearty breakfast, you will embark on a scenic drive to the Lemosho Gate, the starting point of the Lemosho Route. From here, your trek begins through lush rainforests filled with exotic flora and fauna. After approximately 4-6 hours of trekking, you will reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you will spend the night.
As the sun rises, you will continue your ascent through the rainforest, gradually transitioning into the heath and moorland zone. The trail offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. After 5-7 hours of trekking, you will reach Shira 1 Camp, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,505 meters (11,499 feet).
Today's trek takes you across the expansive Shira Plateau, offering breathtaking views of the mountain and its neighboring peaks. As you ascend, the air becomes crisper, and the landscape transforms into an alpine desert. After 4-6 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Shira 2 Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 3,900 meters (12,795 feet).
Leaving Shira 2 Camp, you will continue your climb toward Barranco Camp. The trail takes you through the alpine desert zone, offering awe-inspiring vistas. As you reach the Barranco Valley, you will be greeted by the iconic Barranco Wall, a thrilling but manageable ascent. After 5-7 hours of trekking, you will reach Barranco Camp, nestled at an altitude of approximately 3,960 meters (12,992 feet).
After a good night's rest, you will tackle the challenging Barranco Wall, utilizing both hands and feet to navigate its steep sections. Once you conquer the wall, the trail levels out as you traverse the mountain's southern circuit. After 4-5 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Karanga Camp, situated at an elevation of approximately 4,035 meters (13,238 feet).
As you near the final stages of your climb, you will make your way from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, the base for the summit attempt. The trail traverses rocky terrain, and as you ascend, you will feel the effects of the altitude more prominently. After 3-4 hours of trekking, you will reach Barafu Camp, situated at an altitude of approximately 4,640 meters (15,223 feet).
The summit day begins in the early hours before dawn. Equipped with headlamps, warm layers, and a determined spirit, you will embark on the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Kilimanjaro. As the sun begins to rise, you will witness breathtaking vistas. After celebrating your accomplishment at the summit, you will begin the descent to Mweka Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters (10,170 feet).
On the final day of your adventure, you will descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. The descent takes approximately 3-4 hours and offers an opportunity to reflect on your remarkable achievement. Upon reaching the gate, you will receive your well-deserved certificate of completion and bid farewell to the mountain. Burigi Chato Safaris Tour Company will transport you back to Moshi, where you can celebrate your accomplishment.
