It takes approximately 50 minutes to drive from Moshi to the Machame Gate, which is the starting point for hiking the Machame Route up Mount Kilimanjaro. Along the way hiking up, the road passes through the village of Machame. it is situated on the lower slopes of the mountain. Once we arrive at the Machame Gate, we begin our 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking tour by hiking through the lush and densely forested area on a winding trail that ascends a ridge. This section of the hike is often referred to as the "rainforest zone" due to the frequent rainfall and mist that characterizes the area. We continue hiking on this trail until we reach the Machame Camp. This is our first overnight stop on the journey of our 6 Days Kilimanjaro hiking tour via Machame route.
After leaving the rainforest area. we begin Hiking along a path that gradually ascends towards a steep and rocky ridge. As we make our way higher up to mount Kilimanjaro. The vegetation changes and we find ourselves passing through vast expanses of heather and open moorlands on the Shira Plateau. The terrain becomes more rugged and challenging. With steep inclines and rocky outcroppings that require careful navigation. Eventually, we come to a large river gorge which we must cross before reaching our next Kilimanjaro Machame route campsite known as Shira cave camp. This campsite provides a welcome respite from the difficult terrain and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This will be an end our second day of hiking kilimanjaro
Continuing our 3rd Day of our 6 Days kilimanjaro Hikig trip via Machame Route, we head east along a ridge before veering southeast towards the Lava Tower, a towering volcanic rock formation that rises 300 feet into the sky. After admiring the impressive sight, we continue hiking kilimanjaro towards the Barranco Camp by way of the Senecio Forest, a unique and beautiful landscape filled with strange plants. This part of the trail takes us to an altitude of 13,000 feet, where we spend time acclimatizing to the thinner air. Although we start and end our day at the same elevation, the time spent at higher altitude is very beneficial for acclimatization, helping us to adjust to the challenging conditions of the Kilimanjaro mountain.
On day four of the Kilimanjaro 6 Days hiking adventure via Machame route, we hike to the Great Barranco Wall, a steep 900-foot non-technical Hiking with breathtaking views. After crossing several hills and valleys, we reach Kilimanjaro Karanga Valley and continue hiking to Karanga Camp for a short day of acclimatization. Then after, we connect to the Mweka Trail, continuing our Kilimanjaro Hiking tour to Barafu camp, which marks the end of the Southern Circuit. We take time to rest and fuel up for the Kilimanjaro summit push, while enjoying impressive views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
The summit attempt of Mount Kilimanjaro begins in the early morning hours with a challenging Kilimanjaro Hiking Tour in extreme wind and cold at high altitude. Hiking in darkness, we take breaks until we reach Stella Point at 18,900 feet to witness a breathtaking sunrise over Mawenzi Peak. After reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, we begin our descent to the Mweka Hut campsite. The trail is rocky and hard on the knees, and hiking poles are recommended. After lunch at Barafu, we continue hiking down to Mweka Camp in the upper forest where mist or rain may occur. We enjoy our final dinner on the mountain before getting a well-deserved night of rest.
On the sixth day of the Kilimanjaro hiking tour via Machame route, we leave Mweka Camp and make our way down to Mweka Gate. The descent takes us through the lush rainforest and offers a different perspective of the mountain. Along the way, we may encounter some wildlife, including monkeys and colorful birds. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, we sign out with the park authorities, receiving our certificates for reaching the summit before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha. The journey back offers a chance to reflect on the experience and enjoy the scenery as we pass through small villages and farmlands. Once back in Moshi or Arusha, we can celebrate our achievement with a final dinner and restful night's sleep before departing the following day.
