The hiking adventure begins as we drive to the Lemosho Gate, the starting point of the Lemosho Route. After completing the registration process, we embark on a trek through lush rainforests, where you may spot wildlife such as blue monkeys and colorful bird species. Our destination for the day is Mti Mkubwa Camp, where we'll set up camp and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
As we ascend further, the trail transitions into the moorland zone, characterized by unique plant species and stunning panoramic views. We trek to Shira 2 Camp, situated at an elevation of approximately 12,600 feet (3,840 meters). Along the way, we'll be captivated by the ever-changing landscapes and the magnificence of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Today's hike takes us through the high desert plateau, offering spectacular vistas of the Shira Cathedral and the vast expanse of the Western Breach. We descend into the Barranco Valley, known for its picturesque beauty, and navigate the challenging Barranco Wall. Our campsite for the night is Barranco Camp, nestled in the heart of this natural wonder.
Leaving Barranco Camp, we traverse through valleys, ridges, and scenic landscapes. The trail leads us to Karanga Camp, situated at an altitude of approximately 13,100 feet (3,990 meters). En route, we'll encounter stunning views of the southern glaciers and the rugged beauty of Kilimanjaro. Rest and prepare for the upcoming challenges.
Today's journey takes us closer to the summit as we hike from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, our base camp for the final ascent. The landscape transitions into an alpine desert, characterized by rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. At Barafu Camp, situated at approximately 15,330 feet (4,670 meters), we'll rest and prepare for the summit bid.
The most challenging but rewarding day awaits as we begin the summit attempt in the early hours of the morning. Under the starry sky, we ascend to Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro at 19,341 feet (5,895 meters). Witnessing the breathtaking sunrise from the summit is an experience that will stay with you forever. After celebrating our achievement, we begin our descent to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
