7 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking via Rongai Route tour

We recommend the Rongai route as a 7 day tour. For very fit mountain trekkers, the 6 day tour is also suitable. The second day of the 6 day tour walks directly from the Simba Camp to the Kikelewa Camp, as the intermediate stage over the Second Cave Camp is omitted

Your adventure commences with a Moshi hotel pickup, heading to the quaint wooden village of Nale Moru. En route, a stop at the Marangu Gate for registration sets the stage for your trek. This route offers a drier terrain, ensuring a comfortable trek through fields and a fragrant pine forest. Emerging from the woods, you'll find yourself at the picturesque Simba Camp

Day 2: Trekking from Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp

Following an early breakfast at Simba Camp, you'll set off for your next high-altitude destination: Second Cave Camp (3,480 m). This leg of the journey is relatively straightforward, lasting about 3 hours, allowing you ample time to relax and explore upon arrival. After lunch, a few hours of rest precede an acclimatization trek toward Kikilewa Camp (3,630 m), a short distance along the Rongai Route, with a 100-meter altitude gain. Later, you'll return to Second Cave Camp, marking a day of gradual ascent and preparation for the adventure ahead.

Day 3: Trek from Second Cave Camp to Kikilewa Camp

In the evening, following dinner, your guide will conduct health checks for everyone in the group and provide essential instructions for the upcoming day's trek. This thoughtful approach ensures your well-being and preparedness for the adventure ahead

Day 4: from Kikilewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Beginning with an early breakfast, your day kicks off with a trek to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, nestled at the base of Kilimanjaro's second summit, Mawenzi Volcano. Upon reaching the camp, a well-deserved lunch and a two-hour rest await you. Later, an acclimatization trek towards Mawenzi Volcano, involving a 200-meter altitude gain, unfolds. Finally, you'll descend back to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, where a satisfying dinner awaits in the evening. This strategic itinerary ensures you're well-prepared for the journey ahead.

Day 5: from Mawenzi Tarn Camp Trek to Kibo Camp

While the trek itself isn't overly challenging, it's crucial to maintain a suitable pace to conserve your energy for the impending trek to Kilimanjaro's summit. Upon reaching the camp, our recommendation is to prioritize rest, avoid strenuous activities, and stay well-hydrated. This prudent approach prepares you for the monumental ascent to Uhuru Peak later that night

Day 6: Trekking to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut Cam

Your journey to Uhuru Peak commences from School Hut Camp, perched at an elevation of 4,715 m, during the night. As you ascend to the lofty 5,895 m of Uhuru Peak, you'll feel the strain on your cardiovascular system due to the high altitude, despite the relatively moderate incline. Throughout this ascent, one guide is assigned to every two trekkers, monitoring their fitness closely. Upon reaching the summit, you'll have the opportunity to venture onto the nearby glacier. The descent to Horombo Camp at 3,720 m includes a well-deserved 2-hour rest stop at Kibo Camp. Remember, it's crucial to stay cautious on the way down, as the majority of trekking accidents occur during descent. Watch your step for a safe return

Day 7: Descend trek to Marangu Gate and drive back to Moshi

Your descent today takes you from the arid alpine desert, through the familiar moorland, and into the lush rainforest. The trail offers a stark contrast to your initial day's experience and can be wet and muddy in the final stretch. Keep an eye on the trees for glimpses of playful monkeys. Upon collecting your well-earned summit certificate at Marangu Gate, your driver will be ready to take you back to your hotel for a well-deserved celebration
