Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi – Lemosho Park Gate – Big Tree Campsite (Mti Mkubwa Camp)

After breakfast, drive approximately 3 to 4 hours to Lemosho Park Gate (2,100 m) for registration before beginning your trek. The trail passes through Kilimanjaro's lush rainforest, where towering trees, colorful birds, orchids, and black-and-white colobus monkeys create outstanding opportunities for wildlife and forest photography. The soft natural light filtering through the canopy provides perfect conditions for capturing vibrant landscape and close-up images. After hiking 6 km, arrive at Big Tree Campsite (Mti Mkubwa Camp – 2,650 m), where you can photograph the peaceful surroundings before enjoying dinner and your first night on the mountain.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp – Shira I – Shira II Campsite

Today's journey leaves the rainforest behind and enters the spectacular heath and moorland zone. Trek across open landscapes filled with giant heather, volcanic rock formations, and sweeping views toward Shira I Camp before continuing to Shira II Campsite (3,850 m). Along the way, photographers will enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the Shira Plateau, Kibo Peak, and Mount Meru on clear days. The evening light at Shira II Camp creates excellent conditions for golden-hour photography, while the clear mountain skies offer incredible opportunities for night and astrophotography.

Today is one of the most rewarding photography days of the trek. Ascend gradually to the impressive Lava Tower (4,630 m), where dramatic volcanic formations provide stunning compositions against Kilimanjaro's rugged landscape. After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m) using the "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization strategy. Along the route, photograph giant senecio plants, towering cliffs, glaciers, and the spectacular Barranco Valley, one of the most iconic and photogenic locations on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Continue across rocky trails to Karanga Camp (4,035 m), where the shorter hiking day allows extra time to capture beautiful sunset photographs and prepare your camera equipment for the summit adventure.

After arriving at camp, enjoy an early lunch, organize your photography equipment, and attend the final summit briefing. As evening falls, photograph the beautiful sunset and prepare for one of the most unforgettable sunrise photography experiences in Africa.

After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs at the famous summit sign, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp (3,100 m), documenting the changing landscapes throughout the descent.
