Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Marangu gate to Mandara Hut

Day 1 - Marangu gate to Mandara Hut
Altitude: 1700m to 2740m
Interval: About 12km
Habitat: Montane Forest
Elevation Change: +720m
After breakfast and a briefing from your climbing guide, you will be transferred from Arusha to Marangu Gate. The drive takes approximately 45 minutes. Up to arrival at Marangu Gate, the registration process for your Kilimanjaro climb will take place. You will receive a backpack to carry essential items for the day, example camera, extra clothes, and a rain jacket. Porters will carry the rest of equipment, including food, drinks, and cooking supplies and materials.
The trail starts at the gate and ascends through the rainforest. You will follow a clear ridge route, passing through mist-covered forests with mossy trees. Along the way, you may have the option to take a short detour to the rim of Maundi Crater, where you can enjoy stunning views of Kibo Crater and the glaciers if the weather is clear. After 5 hours of hiking, you will reach Mandara Hut, located at 2700m. The huts at Mandara offer

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Interval: About 15km
Habitat: Moorland
Elevation Change: +1020m
After breakfast, you will begin your hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. The path will take you through the rainforest initially, then you will enter the moorland area. Along the way, you will pass the base of Maundi Crater, where you can choose to take another detour to its rim for breathtaking views of Kibo Crater. The moorland section will introduce you to unique plant species, including giant lobelia and groundsel.
As you ascend, the temperatures may drop, so be prepared with warm clothing. After about 6 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Horombo Hut, situated at 3720m. The huts at Horombo are comfortable and offer a good resting place. Temperatures at night can reach freezing point, so ensure you have appropriate gear for the cold.

Day 3: : Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Interval: About 15km
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Elevation Change: +980m
The climbing guide take you from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. You will have a choice between two ways, with the lower route being easier and passing the last watering point. It is essential to drink enough water and take it slowly to acclimatize properly. The hike will take approximately 6 hours, and you will traverse the barren landscape of the alpine desert.
Once you reach Kibo Hut at 4700m, you will have dinner and rest to prepare for your summit attempt. The temperatures at Kibo Hut can be extreme, with nighttime temperatures dropping below freezing. Ensure you have appropriate clothing and gear to stay warm.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Summit (Uhuru Peak) and Horombo Hut

Day 4 - Kibo Hut to Summit (Uhuru Peak) and Horombo Hut
Altitude: 4700m to 5895m (Summit) and then down to 3720m (Horombo Hut)
Interval: About 27km
Habitat: Stone Scree and Ice-Capped Summit
Elevation Change: +1195m (to Summit), -2175m (to Horombo Hut)
This will be the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro climb. You will wake up before midnight and start your ascent to the summit. The path will be steep and rocky, and you will reach Gillman's Point at 5680m after a few hours. From there, you will hike through the scree for about 2 hours until you reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5895m.
Take some time to celebrate your achievement, capture photos, and enjoy the incredible views. Afterward, you will begin your descent, which will take approximately 3 hours to reach Kibo Hut. After a short rest and a meal, you will continue descending to Horombo Hut at 3720m, where you will have dinner and spend the night

Day 5: Horombo Hut to moshi

Hiking Time: 6 hours
Interval: About 27km
Habitat: Moorland + Rainforest
Elevation Change: -1740m
On your last day, you will descend from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. The trail will lead you through the moorland and back into the rainforest. The hike will take approximately 6 hours. Once you reach Marangu Gate, you will sign out and receive your summit certificate as a memento of your achievement. A road transfer will take you back to your hotel in Arusha, where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest and reflect on your incredible Kilimanjaro climb.
