Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha / Moshi to Marangu Gate – Trek to Mandara Hut

Distance: 8 km
Altitude: Marangu Gate 1,870m to Mandara Hut 2,720m
Time: 3–4 hours trekking
Vegetation / Physical Features: Montane rainforest, shaded trail, tall trees, small streams, birds, and possible blue monkeys or colobus monkeys


After breakfast, our team will pick you up from Arusha or Moshi and drive to Marangu Gate for registration, guide briefing, and group introduction. This is where your group joining Kilimanjaro climb begins, and you will meet other climbers who will share the adventure with you. Our guide will organize the group, explain the route, and lead everyone through the green rainforest zone at a steady “pole pole” pace. The trail is fresh, scenic, and peaceful, giving the group a good first day to connect, take photos, and adjust to the mountain rhythm. You will arrive at Mandara Hut in the afternoon, where the group will rest, enjoy dinner, and receive a briefing about the next trekking day.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Distance: 11–12 km
Altitude: Mandara Hut 2,720m to Horombo Hut 3,720m
Time: 5–6 hours trekking
Vegetation / Physical Features: Heath and moorland zone, giant heathers, open slopes, mountain ridges, views of Mawenzi and Kibo


Today the group will leave Mandara Hut and continue higher toward Horombo Hut as the rainforest changes into open moorland. The scenery becomes wider, and on clear days you may enjoy beautiful views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This day is important for group joining climbers because members may have different walking speeds, so our guide will manage the pace carefully and make sure everyone stays comfortable. You will walk slowly, take regular water breaks, and encourage each other along the trail. The shared group atmosphere makes the climb more enjoyable, especially during longer sections. After arriving at Horombo Hut, you will rest, enjoy a warm meal, and spend the evening with your group before moving higher the next day.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Time: 5–6 hours trekking
Vegetation / Physical Features: Alpine desert, dry saddle, volcanic rocks, open high-altitude plains, views between Mawenzi and Kibo


After breakfast, your group will trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut, crossing the famous saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape becomes dry, open, and more serious as you enter the alpine desert zone. Our guide will keep the group moving slowly to save energy for the summit attempt, while also reminding everyone to drink water and stay focused. This day brings the group closer to the highest part of Kilimanjaro, so teamwork and positive motivation become very important. When you arrive at Kibo Hut, you will have an early dinner, prepare your warm summit clothes, check your headlamp, and organize your daypack. Our guide will give a clear summit briefing so the group understands the plan before resting for the midnight climb.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak – Descend to Horombo Hut

Altitude: Kibo Hut 4,703m to Uhuru Peak 5,895m, then down to Horombo Hut 3,720m
Time: 10–14 hours trekking
Vegetation / Physical Features: Volcanic scree, steep summit path, crater rim, glaciers, rocky alpine desert, high-altitude summit zone


Around midnight, your group will begin the summit attempt from Kibo Hut toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. This is the most demanding and rewarding part of the group joining Kilimanjaro climb. Our guide will lead everyone slowly through the cold night, checking each climber’s condition and encouraging the group step by step toward Gilman’s Point and then Uhuru Peak. The group spirit is very helpful on this day because climbers motivate each other during the hardest moments. After reaching the summit, you will have time for photos and celebration before descending back to Kibo Hut for a short rest. You will then continue down to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight, where the group can rest after a long but unforgettable summit day.

After breakfast, your group will begin the final descent from Horombo Hut toward Marangu Gate, passing again through the moorland and rainforest zones. This final day gives everyone time to reflect on the shared challenge, new friendships, teamwork, and achievement of climbing Kilimanjaro together. Our guide will manage the descent carefully because the legs may feel tired after summit day. You will pass Mandara Hut and continue through the forest until reaching Marangu Gate. At the gate, our team will assist with checkout and certificate collection for climbers who reached Gilman’s Point or Uhuru Peak.
