5 Days Hiking Mt Kilimanjaro via Marangu Route Expedition

After a one-hour drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate (1,800m), complete the park formalities and start the trek. The 3-hour hike takes you through the rainforest to Mandara Hut, situated at an elevation of 2,720m. Spend the night at the hut.

Continue your hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. The trail first passes through rainforest, then opens up to moorland with stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The hike takes about 4-5 hours. Rest and enjoy the scenery at Horombo Hut.

today’s hike takes you between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. After 4-5 hours of hiking, you'll reach Kibo Hut, located at 4,704m. Take this day to rest and prepare for the final ascent to the summit.

Start the challenging ascent to the summit, beginning around midnight. The trail passes through Hans Meyer Cave and Gilman's Point before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895m. Take in the breathtaking views and capture memorable photos. Descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut for overnight stay.

After breakfast descends from Horombo Hut, passing Mandara Hut along the way. Reach Marangu Gate, where successful climbers receive their certificates. Give tips to the porters and guides when they are all present. A driver will be waiting to take you back to your accommodation in Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and celebrations.
