Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi Town to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut:

Day 1 - Moshi Town to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut:
After breakfast, we will depart for Kilimanjaro National Park's Marangu Gate. Upon registration, our trek officially begins with a four-hour walk to the Mandara campsite. Our guides will emphasize the importance of taking it slowly. We will pass through a dense rainforest and spend the night at Mandara Hut (2,750m). The hut offers sleeping bunks, running water, and flushable toilets.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut:

Day 2 - Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut:
Today, we will trek through the forest for a short time before reaching the moorland zone at around 3,000m (a six-hour walk). The breathtaking view of the mountain peaks becomes visible at this altitude. We will rest and spend the night at Horombo Hut (3,720m), nestled in a valley surrounded by giant lobelia and groundsel. Bathrooms with running water are available, and our cook will prepare an evening meal.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut:

Day 3 - Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut:
We will embark on a slow trek through the heathland, gradually ascending to the desert-like alpine zone (approximately 4,000m). It is important to maintain a slow pace to acclimatize properly and be vigilant for signs of altitude sickness. Today's trek will take us between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Resting is crucial to conserve energy for the upcoming summit trek. Your guide will wake you at 11 pm to prepare for the midnight start to the summit.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, Down to Horombo Hut:

Day 4 - Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, Down to Horombo Hut:
Wake up just after midnight to begin the trek to the summit. The frozen slope of Gillman's Point (5,861m) is easier to traverse before daylight. Witness the breathtaking sunrise from the summit and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Weather conditions will determine the time spent at the summit. Afterward, descend to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest on the last night of the trek.

Day 5: Horombo Hut down to Moshi:

Day 5 - Horombo Hut down to Moshi:
After breakfast, you will begin your descent from Horombo Hut, which will take approximately 6 hours. You will pass by the Mandara campsite and continue all the way down to the bottom of the mountain. At the gate, each trekker will receive a well-deserved certificate of accomplishment. We highly recommend not paying any tips to your team until you and all your gear have safely reached the gate. From the gate, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can enjoy a long-awaited hot shower, a delicious dinner, and celebrate your successful trek of Mount Kilimanjaro.
